The Use of Lowering Springs for Your Ride

Regardless of how much power you have under the hood, a tuned suspension is vital. Without the right suspension, adding too much power to your car can be detrimental. A finely tuned suspension will keep your tires where they are supposed to be: on the road.

You should start by lowering your ride height. Coilovers offer you the best way to do this. However, if you purchase lowering springs make sure you get a camber kit to keep your alignment in check. Coilovers will let you adjust your ride height as needed, unlike lowering springs which provide a fixed height.

A set of lowering springs can enhance cornering and handling on the road. No matter the case, your suspension should be inspected and maintained periodically for optimal safety and performance.

Lowering your ride is a great way to improve style and flair. You'll also notice better fuel consumption, surprisingly. However, style and performance are the two main reasons to drop your car to the asphalt. Lowering your ride's center of gravity with lowering springs will help it handle better in tight turns and in general driving.

Lowering springs together with anti-roll bars, have a significant effect on the feel of a car and its responsiveness to steering input. Increasing spring rate at a particular corner of the car transfers more weight to that corner making it slide more.

Installing lowering springs on your car can provide a substantial improvement in handling.

Lowering springs reduce your car's center of gravity, and therefore reducing resistance on the chassis through the turns. The result you might ask, quicker steering response and feeling like your car is glued to the road. It is important to realize your expectations and desires when shopping for new lowering springs though.

Softer lowering springs will still increase performance, but won't nearly affect overall ride quality as much. For the most part, I don't like extremes. I would advise against installing some really stiff lowering springs unless you have a separate track car or are willing to put up with a bumpy ride.
